Ola Electric on Thursday announced a major expansion beyond electric mobility, unveiling its entry into India’s rapidly growing ₹1 trillion Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market with the launch of “Ola Shakti”, the company’s first residential clean energy solution.

A New Chapter in India’s Energy Revolution
In a regulatory filing, Ola Electric said, “We have built world-class battery and cell technology for electric mobility. Ola Shakti extends that innovation to homes, helping them store and use clean energy intelligently.”
The new venture marks a strategic step in Ola’s broader vision to transform India’s energy ecosystem — from electric vehicles to household energy independence. Ola Shakti aims to provide consumers with smart battery units capable of storing solar or grid power for use during peak hours or outages.

Built on 4680 Cell Technology and Gigafactory Backbone
The company emphasized that Ola Shakti is a “natural next step,” leveraging its existing 4680 cell technology and Gigafactory production capabilities in Tamil Nadu — one of India’s largest EV and battery manufacturing hubs.
Ola Electric added that its nationwide Ola network would serve as a built-in distribution and service channel for the new product, allowing rapid scalability without significant incremental investment.
The company stated, “By utilizing our manufacturing base and network of service centers, we can deliver high-quality, affordable energy storage solutions across India, helping accelerate the country’s clean energy transition.”
Tapping Into India’s Growing BESS Opportunity
India’s BESS market — projected to exceed ₹1 trillion in the next few years — has drawn growing interest amid the country’s ambitious renewable energy goals and the need for grid stability. As solar and wind power generation rise, energy storage has become a critical missing link to ensure consistent supply.
Ola Electric’s entry puts it in direct competition with players like Reliance New Energy, Tata Power, and Adani Energy Solutions, signaling a new wave of competition in the energy-tech sector.
Bhavish Aggarwal’s Vision: From Mobility to Energy Independence
Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has long hinted at expanding beyond mobility, envisioning a vertically integrated clean energy ecosystem. Industry observers say Ola Shakti could become the cornerstone of that vision.
“Just as Ola disrupted mobility, it now aims to revolutionize household energy consumption. The combination of EV expertise, battery innovation, and local manufacturing could make Ola a dominant player in India’s storage space,” said energy analyst Meera Sharma.

With Ola Shakti, Ola Electric transitions from being a pioneer in electric mobility to a contender in India’s clean energy infrastructure. By leveraging its EV battery technology and national footprint, the company is positioning itself at the center of India’s next major industrial wave — energy storage for a sustainable future.
